I’ve witnessed how people outside Korea, initially drawn to Korean dramas, have extended their interest to Korean music, food, and even everyday beauty products that Korean women use. More recently, I’ve noticed a growing desire among them to understand Korean society and the lives of Korean people. Some are even becoming curious about Korean history—aspects that even Koreans themselves might not be fully aware of.
I understand this feeling well. When I visit other countries and encounter unfamiliar or distinctive elements in people’s lives and cultures, I find myself asking, ‘Why do they have this particular culture and way of life?’ When I discover answers through their cultural and historical backgrounds, I experience a range of emotions: a sense of intimacy that comes from recognizing our shared humanity, and a sense of awe toward lives that have unfolded differently from those in my own society.
This blog is for anyone who, for whatever reason, has an interest in Korea—whether you’re planning to visit, considering living here, or simply curious about the country. Through this space, I aim to gradually share stories that reveal the context behind Korean life and culture, one tale at a time.
